Description
For years I was charging my AA and AAA batteries in the charger on the left which is considered a "dumb" charger. It's "dumb" because It just charges and charges and charges until the batteries blow up or burn up. No, I'm kidding about it blowing up or burning up but in reality it will charge the batteries too much if you don’t know how much to charge them and most people will not know the precise amount of time to charge the batteries because the batteries wear out and get old and charge times will change. So I was looking for a battery charger online that can efficiently and safely charge batteries and I stumbled upon a YouTube video showing this one and immediately loved it. This is an "intelligent" microprocessor controlled charger that has many useful features.
Below info was taken from the charger manual on La Crosse Technology website:
Charging rechargeable batteries in various currents (200, 500 or 700 mA).
Fast charging – 70 mins to charge up 2000 mAh batteries
Individual LCD display for all compartments
Charging both “AA” and “AAA” rechargeable batteries simultaneously
Overheat detection to protect rechargeable batteries from over-charging
Minus delta voltage (-dV) detection for charge termination
Damaged batteries detection
Discharge mode (first discharging and then charging) to remove memory effect of
rechargeable batteries
Refreshing old rechargeable batteries by discharging/ charging cycles
Test function to check the capacities of rechargeable batteries
Charging/ Discharging functions can be launched independently and simultaneously to
each rechargeable battery in the compartments
Various display modes during charging/ discharging – the charging current (in mA), time
elapsed (in hh:mm), the terminal voltage (in V) and accumulated capacities (in mAh or Ah)
So, in the picture above I put in some old batteries (first 2 on left) to try to refresh them as I was not able to accurately charge them in the "dumb" charger. In the manual it says that can take several days to achieve maximum capacity after several discharge/charge cycles so im willing to wait to get these old batteries to a capacity as good as they can be. Also, I have 2 newer batteries that I decided to refresh as I had those unused for some time but not as long as the first 2.
This charger cost me approx. 33$ on Amazon and I'm happy I finally got something that will charge my batteries properly and safely.
Thanks if you fave this.
